Skipjacks Opened the Season at the "Hoop Here Get There Classic"

The Chesapeake College Women's Basketball team opened their season this past weekend at Howard Community College. The Skipjacks split two games, going 1-1, claiming victory over Richard Bland College on Saturday and on Sunday, falling to Monroe Community College.

In Saturday's season opener, the Skipjacks dominated the game from start to finish, led by a standout performance from Freshman Gabrielle Corbin (Salisbury, MD/Wicomico). Corbin contributed exceptionally on both ends of the court, scoring a team-high 26 points on an efficient 11-for-19 shooting. Corbin also added 12 defensive rebounds to the team's total giving the Skipjacks continuous momentum throughout the game. Corbin's efforts were complimented by Sophomores, Asia Taylor (Philadelphia, PA/ Imhotep Institute) and Shenell White (Deltona, FL/ Deltona) who contributed 17 points and 11 points respectively.

The following day Chesapeake faced a tough challenge against Monroe Community College. The team fought hard but ultimately could not secure the win. Gabrielle Corbin continues her strong play, scoring 12 points and contributing 10 rebounds, demonstrating her consistency and tenacity in both games. Lourden Banks (Accokeek, MD/ St. Mary's Ryken) also provided an offensive spark, scoring 10 points while Sophomores Asia Taylor and Amaya Richmond (Lithia Springs, GA/ Lithia Springs) both contributed 9 points apiece. Despite the teams' efforts, Chesapeake couldn't overcome Monroe's strong offensive and defensive efforts.

The Skipjacks will be heading to North Jersey on Saturday, November 8th, for a showdown against Essex County College at 2 PM.
